Sleep Apnea is a breathing disorder. Sleep Apnea symptoms include breathing that is briefly interrupted or becomes very shallow during sleep.
For anyone who thinks they may suffer from sleep apnea or excessive snoring, we would refer you to a sleep specialist and recommend that a sleep study be performed. Should the study reveal mild to moderate apnea, an appliance can be fabricated for you to wear over your teeth during sleep. This device helps to open the airway and improve blood oxidation levels. This will reduce sleeplessness and help you sleep quietly.
Other Sleep Apnea diagnosis may include consulting an ENT. Obstructive sleep apnea is due to a blockage in your nose or throat. An evaluation by a heart doctor (cardiologist) or a doctor who specializes in the nervous system (neurologist) may be necessary to look for causes of central sleep apnea.
It is important to treat sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can lead to serious health problems over time including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and weight gain.
